Edmond J. Mack: Canton’s Newest Civil Service Commissioner
It did not take long for Attorney Edmond Mack to get back into a position within the City of Canton. Less than four years after leaving his seat as the Councilman for Ward 8 in Canton City Council, Edmond has returned, this time as a commissioner member, officially sworn in at the January monthly meeting of the City of Canton’s Civil Service Commission.
He joins Albert Conde and Ralph Lee as the third and final commissioner for the City.
Edmond was appointed to the Civil Service Commission by Mayor Tom Bernabei. The Commission, made up of three members, does not require City Council confirmation.
What does the Civil Service Commission do?
The Commission works as the primary point-of-contact for job seekers looking for employment opportunities with the City of Canton.
The three members collaborate to create, amend, and enforce rules regarding the classifications of job positions with the civil service, city school district, and the health district. These rules range from appointments and promotions to transfers, layoffs, and removals. Rules are also created and enforced to ensure standardization and efficiency of the above positions.
What is the Commissioner’s role?
As a Commissioner, Edmond will attend monthly meetings - the dates and times as well as meeting agendas and minutes are available through the Civil Service Commission webpage - and assist in brainstorming actions to result in better recruitment and test for City of Canton job candidates. Along with the other Commissioners, he will provide objective and neutral personnel decisions when needed.
All Commissioners must reside or own property, own or work in a business within the City.
How long is a term of a Civil Service Commissioner?
The term length for a Commissioner is six (6) years. Edmond’s term will expire on December 31, 2027 unless he is appointed again by the Mayor.
