Attorneys used ChatGPT for legal research, sanctioned by federal judge
On June 22, 2023, a New York federal judge sanctioned two lawyers for filing a brief containing ‘bogus’ cases generated by ChatGPT.
After the attorneys failed to come clean about their AI reliance for “legal research,” the court found both attorneys acted with “subjective bad faith.”
Real legal work requires real lawyering. If an attorney suggests ChatGPT will help efficiently pursue your legal objectives - think twice. Ask questions. DON’T trust your important legal work to an algorithm.
